Permian Basin drillers will have to get Carlsbad permission to drill near its water wells

 

In a move to protect its water wells, the city of Carlsbad, New Mexico has adopted an ordinance requiring petroleum companies that want to drill near the wells to get the city’s permission.

The Carlsbad City Council last week approved a change to its Wellhead and Water Facilities Protection Ordinance reported the Carlsbad Current Argus.

The city is right in the heart of the portion of the Permian Basin that extends into southeast New Mexico.
