Jeep defends use of Cherokee name on its SUV

Jeep apparently is not going to remove the name Cherokee from its popular SUV even though the principal chief of the Cherokee tribe in Oklahoma wants his tribe’s name removed from the vehicle.

Jeep is set to unveil its new Cherokee and stands by its use of the name which it started 45 years ago.

“Our vehicle names have been carefully chosen and nurtured over the years to honor and celebrate Native American people for their nobility, prowess, and pride.”

“We are, more than ever, committed to a respectful and open dialogue with Cherokee Nation Principal Chief Chuck Hoskin, Jr.,” the statement adds according to a report by CBS Evening News.
