High winds caused 4% fall in North Dakota oil production

North Dakota officials blame 90-mile an hour winds in January for causing a nearly 4% drop in the state’s January oil production.

The Bismarck Tribune reported power outages in parts of the Bakken led to oil production of 1.147 million barrels which was 4% lower than December oil production.

“We had a day of 90 mph winds in the oil patch, so electric power was lost through significant portions of oil and gas fields,” State Mineral Resources Director Lynn Helms said. “It took about 10 days to fully restore the power.”
