Congress questions Texas officials about power grid failure

A U.S. House subcommittee led by Democrats started its investigation this week into the February power outages that hit Texas during the massive winter storm.

The hearing on Wednesday turned into more of a debate over the reliability of fossil fuels and renewable energy sources and resulted in little new insight into the crisis according to the Associated Press.

Democrats used the hearing to argue that climate change is making such extreme weather events more common while Republicans countered that coal, natural gas and nuclear energy are much more reliable than wind and solar.
