Texas oil company hit with $1.9M penalty for Wyoming spills

Texas oil company Fleur de Lis Energy, LLC will have to pay nearly $2 million in fines for several crude oil and wastewater spills in Wyoming.

The Environmental Protection Agency announced the $.19 million agreement this week. The spills happened between the fall of 2016 and the spring of 2018 reported the Associated Press.

One was in the Linch Complex Field in Johnson County and five were in the Salt Creek Field in Natrona County, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Natrona County involves oilfield activity around Casper, Wyoming.

The biggest spill totaled nearly 300,000 gallons while the others were about 23,000 gallons or less.

Fleur de Lis didn’t have adequate plans to prevent and respond to spills but recently has submitted plans that meet regulatory requirements, according to the EPA.

The penalty goes into the Oil Spill Liability Trust Fund used by the U.S. government to respond to spills of oil and hazardous substances.
