Poll shows opposition to Texas’ electric grid

A poll conducted by POLITICO/Morning Consult showed more than half of U.S. voters think Texas should not continue with its lone electric grid, but should connect to a regional grid.

POLITICO reported that 56% supported joining another grid, findings taken after last week’s deadly and disastrous winter storm left millions without power. The poll was conducted Feb. 19-22 and found 24% said Texas should continue with its present system of using ERCOT. Another 20% had no opinion or did not know.

A breakdown of the poll showed 71% of Democrats supported Texas connecting to another grid while 41% of Republicans and 48% of Independents agreed.

Still, POLITICO reported that 72% of those polled said Texas electric utilities were “very responsible.”
