Oklahoma’s rig count holds steady while US sees increase of 8

 

The number of active oil and gas rigs in Oklahoma remained at 18 over the past week with no increase in activity. But Baker Hughes reported that nationally, the numbers increased by 8 to reach 392 including an increase of four oil rigs to 299 and four more gas drilling rigs to 92.

Canada saw a drop of three rigs to 171. In the U.S., the count of 392 is still 398 below the 790 rigs reported one year ago. The numbers included a drop of 377 oil rigs and 19 gas rigs.

Oklahoma’s current count of 18 rigs compares to 50 reported last year at this time. Texas saw an increase of 7 to 189 compared to the 394 a year ago.

New Mexico’s numbers fell one to 61 rigs. The Red Top Rig Report published by the Independent Oil and Gas Service said the count in Kansas slipped one to 15 rigs.

Colorado remained at 8 while Louisiana stayed at 47. North Dakota’s count was unchanged at 12 active rigs.

West Virginia continued with 12 rigs while Ohio saw its count grow by two to seven active rigs. Wyoming was unchanged at five rigs.

Oklahoma’s Woodford plays still have no reported rig activity based on the numbers provided by Baker Hughes Co. The D-J Basin in Colorado and southern Wyoming stayed at 7.

The Eagle Ford of South Texas was unchanged at 28. The Granite Wash in Western Oklahoma and the Texas Panhandle reported no active rigs serviced by Baker Hughes.

The Haynesville saw an increase of two to 47 rigs. The Marcellus was unchanged at 30 while the Mississippian in Oklahoma and Southern Kansas had no rig activity.

The Permian Basin of West Texas and southeast New Mexico had an increase of six rigs to 198. The Utica play saw two more rigs bringing the total count to 7 rigs. The Willison remained at 12.
