Enviros fight Public Service Company’s coal plant move in New Mexico

A fight’s brewing in northwest New Mexico where environmentalists are challenging plans by Public Service Co. to abandon its share of the coal-burning Four Corners Power Plant near Farmington.

Environmentalists contend the plan would violate New Mexico’s landmark energy law. The Associated Press reported the groups called New Energy Economy and Citizens for Fair Rates and the Environment filed a challenge arguing the statue prohibits fossil fuel-fired plants from being reassigned or sold as a means of complying with renewable energy standards.
