North Dakota oil industry seeks relief on late royalty payments to state

The North Dakota Petroleum Council is asking state legislators to give relief to the oil and gas industry by easing the interest and penalties charged companies for unpaid oil and gas royalties.

The Council supported House Bill 1080 which went before North Dakota legislators this week as they convened in 2021. As the Bismarck Tribune reported, the bill was the result of a fight over unpaid royalties and the efforts of the Board of University and School Lands to collect payments from dozens of oil and gas producers.
