Lockheed executive’s death impacted Cheniere Energy too

The weekend death of Lockheed Martin’s Aeronautics business leader Michele Evans not only affected her firm but the oil and gas industry too. She served on the board of directors at Cheniere Energy.

Evans died Jan. 1 after taking a leave of absence on Dec. 1 due to cancer that she had been battling since the summer of 2019. Her death was not related to COVID-19.

Evans spent 34 years working at Lockheed and, before her medical issues, was seen as a top contender to replace Marillyn Hewson as the company’s chief executive.

She was named as an independent director to the Cheniere Energy board in June of 2019 and also was appointed to the Audit and the Governance and Nominating Committees. The appointment came only a few months before she had to take a September 2019 medical leave from Lockheed.

“All of us at Cheniere are profoundly saddened at the passing of board member Michele Evans. Michele dedicated her career to the security of the United States and our allies, and we are thankful she was able to share her exceptional leadership and experience with us,” said Jack Fusco, Cheniere Energy President and CEO.
