A court-ordered environmental review of the Dakota Access pipeline was upheld Tuesday by a federal appeals court. But the appeals court refused to shut down the controversial line while the review is undertaken and completed.
The D.C. Circuit upheld the lower-court order from U.S. District Judge James Boasberg in April 2020 who ruled in a case brought by the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation. The nearly 1,200 mile, $3.8 billion line crosses under the Missouri River which is just north of the Reservation. Tribal leaders contend the line will pollute the waters of the river.
