The oil and gas industry in Wyoming as well as its state leaders are waiting for the hammer to fall if President Biden follows through with a total suspension of all new oil and gas leasing on federal lands.
Here’s why. In Wyoming, nearly 51% of oil is drilled on public land and 92% of natural gas is drilled there as well.
No wonder state leaders might be shuddering in horror over the prospects of such a shutdown and the economic impact it would not only have on state government but the state as a whole.
As the Casper Star Tribune reported this week, given the abundance of federal land and minerals in Wyoming, such a move by Biden would “have a disproportionate impact on the state’s oil and gas industry, compared to other places in the country.’
