Crude oil futures inch closer to a 1-year high in trading

While crude oil futures approached 1-year highs in Wednesday’s trading, Oklahoma energy stocks for the most part suffered losses.

With one major exception. Matrix Service Co, headquartered in Tulsa had a nearly 26% gain for the day as its shares soared $3.13 each to finish the day at $15.36. Officially, that’s a gain of 25.59%.

Brent and West Texas Intermediate crude prices apparently were the recipients of investors who laid money down on more stimulus coming from the federal government and that COVID-19 vaccine will fuel an economic recovery.

At one point in the trading, Brent crude was approaching the $57 mark while WTI in the U.S. was more than $53 a barrel…the highest level since February.

But, there’s always a but, by the end of the trading day, both WTI and Brent suffered losses.

West Texas Intermediate crude lost 12 cents or 0.23% and fell to $52.79—-still close to the $53 mark.

Global benchmark Brent crude for March delivery dropped 52 cents or a nearly 1% fall to $56.06 in trading on ICE Futures Europe.
