An empty promise based on shaken oil and gas revenue

New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham, who had plans to take advantage of the state’s enormous wealth from the oil and gas industry’s Permian Basin operations and use the money to finance free college for state residents, now is holding an empty promise.

COVID-19 took care of the Democratic governor’s wishful thinking, as well as state legislators who had second thoughts and wanted to be cautious about such a daring project.

As NBC News reported, the governor was so confident of her plan, she notified the national press before making the announcement.

The governor isn’t the only one with dashed hopes about a plan that might help her political aspirations—thousands of young people in the state who had dreams of a college education were left disappointed.
