American Airlines makes first Boeing 737 Max flight since deadly crashes

The Boeing 737 Max is back in the air. American Airlines was the first airline in the U.S. to fly commercial passengers on the plane on Tuesday, two years after deadly foreign crashes led to a grounding of the plane.

Many of the American Airlines grounded 737 Max jetliners were put in storage at the airline’s maintenance center in Tulsa. The first of the 737 Max jetliners to take to the sky took off Tuesday morning from Miami International Airport for a nearly 3 hour flight to LaGuardia International Airport in New York.

The crashes happened in Indonesia and Ethiopia killing 346 people in 2018 and 2019. Tuesday’s flight was the first in which customers few an American Airlines Boeing 737 Max since March 2019.

The Dallas Morning News reported that American intends to ease the return of its fleet of 737 Max jetliners beginning with a roundtrip flight between Miami and New York. More flights will eventually be increased after Jan. 4. Reports indicated that American has 588 Max flights scheduled in January.
