EPA nomination watch in a Biden administration

As the numbers are still being crunched in the “too close to call” presidential race, there’s growing speculation about who might get the nod to run the Environmental Protection Agency in a Biden administration.

POLITICO reported that two names are in the speculation barrel to be picked to run the EPA. One is Mary Nichols of the California Air Resources Board and the other is Heather McTeer Toney who is with the Moms Clean Air Force.

But since Nichols is considered to be a Trump antagonist on climate change and air pollution, she might have a tough road in the Republican-controlled Senate. POLITICO described Toney as someone with a lower profile, a Black former mayor from Mississippi who has experience in the Obama EPA.

New Mexico Democrat Congresswoman Deb Haaland is still mentioned as someone to become Interior secretary. So is New Mexico’s retiring Democrat U.S. Sen. Tom Udall who has much more experience on capitol hill.

Whether it’s the EPA or the Interior Department, there are other names in the hat.
