Crude oil futures made Thanksgiving eve gains–so did some Oklahoma energy stocks

The day before Thanksgiving left some Oklahoma energy stocks with dessert while others had nothing but an empty bone.

It came as crude oil futures rose again in trading in the U.S. and in Europe. A surprise drop in U.S. crude inventories last week spurred the continued drive in oil prices along with the belief that a COVID-19 vaccine, which might be available in December, will increase fuel demand.

West Texas Intermediate crude settled at $45.84, up 13 cents but at one point during the day, prices were more than $46 a barrel.

Global benchmark Brent crude finished up 75 cents for a gain of 1.57% and settled at $48.61 on the ICE Futures Europe.

Natural gas went up 12 cents for a 4.36% gain to $2.90 per MMBtu.

Laredo Petroleum Inc. was one of the thankful ones as shares were bumped up more than 10% thanks to a $1.19 per share increase to reach $12.94.

Others weren’t so fortunate and one of the big losers for the day was NGL Energy Partners LP where shares took a more than 8% plunge, falling 21 cents to $2.41.
