Four STACK wells produce 2,700 barrels of oil a day for Ovintiv Inc.

While third quarter earnings reports by some Oklahoma energy companies reflect little to no drilling activity in the state, completion reports filed with the state show a recent flurry of completed wells by Houston-based Ovintiv Mid-Continent Inc. Four of its wells had combined production of nearly 2,700 barrels of oil a day.

The company reported completion of two different double-well pad sites in Kingfisher County, the heart of the STACK play.

Two wells were completed at 7 16N 8W , a site about 9 miles due west of the city of Kingfisher and just north of State Highway 3.

The two Yost 1608 wells had combined production of 950 barrels of oil a day. The largest produced 630 barrels of oil a day and 1,147 Mcf of natural gas from a depth of 19,349 feet in the Mississippian play. Its completion report showed the well had a December 2019 spud date and drilling was finished in February 2020 with completion made April 2, 2020.

The smaller of the  Yost wells produced 320 barrels of oil a day along with 548 Mcf of natural gas from a depth of 19,552 feet, also in the Mississippian play. It too had a December 2019 spud date and drilling was finished in January with completion in April, according to its completion report.

The second pair of Ovintiv wells from a single pad were at 19 16N 8W and were also Yost wells, but their location was about two miles south of the first set of wells and on the south side of State Highway 3.

Their combined oil production was 1,710 barrels a day. The largest had production of 1,066 barrels of oil a day along with 1,340 Mcf of natural gas. It had a spud date of December 2019 and drilling was finished in February 2020 with completion made April 1, 2020 from a depth of 19,372 feet in the Mississippian play.

The smaller producing well had production of 644 barrels of oil a day and 942 Mcf of natural gas, according to its completion report. The well had a December 2019 spud date, drilling was finished in January 2020 and completion was made April 3, 2020 from a drilling depth of 19,579 feet in the Mississippian play.

It would appear that the four Ovintiv wells are the largest producers in the STACK play yet this year, a play where drilling literally came to a halt because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
