Hiring challenges faced by Michelin in Ardmore

The Michelin tire manufacturing plant in Ardmore has reported problems in hiring more workers.

The report comes from Bill Hancock who is the Business Services and Rapid Response Coordinator at the Oklahoma Office of Workforce Development.

“Michelin in Ardmore is struggling to hire 90 employees. Because of contract requirements, they need for the employees to pass a drug test,” he indicated in a notice this week.

The plant opened in 1970 and as of its 40th anniversary covered 1.5 million square feet of manufacturing operations. It employed more than 1,700 workers, the most of any Michelin manufacturing facility in the U.S.

Michelin spent $45 million rebuilding the plant after it was heavily damaged by a tornado in 1995.
