AEP seeks renewable energy power in the East

US utility American Electric Power Company Inc., the parent company of Public Service Company of Oklahoma, is looking to buy electricity from new or repowered wind projects and new solar parks in the PJM power market, it said on Monday.

PJM is the Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Maryland power market.

The company’s subsidiary AEP Energy Partners (AEPEP) will select the eligible projects for off-take through a Request for Proposals (RfP). Winners in the competition will be awarded renewable energy purchase agreements of 10, 12 or 15 years, the utility said.

The solicitation is open for projects involving the construction of new solar and wind parks, as well as for wind repowering projects. Proposals with alternative terms will also be accepted. All power plants are required to become operational between 2020 and 2023.

Interested parties are invited to submit a notice of intent to bid by August 13 and file their proposal packages by August 28.

At present, Ohio-based AEP owns nearly 30 GW of power generating assets, of which more than 5.2 GW rely on renewable sources. AEPEP will use the new capacity to support its retail and wholesale loads in the PJM market. Its off-take arrangements in the area include a long-term PPA with Google LLC and the Columbus Regional Airport Authority.
