Rainfall and wind surprise Panhandle residents

Those thunderstorms of the past week to 10 days in Oklahoma have left residents of the Panhandle surprised—-it rained.

It even caught State Climatologist Gary McManus off guard who, in his Monday Oklahoma Mesonet update took note of how nearly 3 inches of rain fell near Boise City.

“Hey now, even during the worst of the summer doldrums, a bit of excitement can pop up every now and again. The Panhandle, for instance, has seen rain a few times even during this time where the death ridge/heat dome controls our weather,” he wrote.

“Check out the generous rainfall totals over the last 5 days up that way, and then see where Boise City recorded an 83 mph wind gust at the Mesonet site there.”
