OCC’s attempt at partial reopening of headquarters is delayed

The Oklahoma Corporation Commission’s first attempt at a partial reopening of its headquarters building for a hearing involving the City of Moore, the Burlington Northern Santa Fe railway and the Oklahoma Department of Transportation has been delayed due to COVID-19.

The Commission has postponed its special meeting scheduled on Thursday to handle the issue of the City of Moore wanting Burlington Northern Santa Fe railway to pay for a proposed train crossing underpass.

The Commission announced Wednesday afternoon that the hearing will be reset to a later date.

When questioned about the matter, Matt Skinner, a spokesman for the regulatory agency explained, “Need more time to take the necessary Covid-19 precautions.”

The Commission intends to make the hearing semi-public, allowing attorneys and other representatives of BNSF, the city of Moore and the Oklahoma Department of Transportation to attend in-person at the Jim Thorpe building.

Plans were proposed earlier this week by Commission Chairman Todd Hiett. However, administrators also suggested there be strict adherence to COVID-19 health rules including the mandatory wearing of masks, temperature taking upon entering the building, assigned seating and glass partitions for speakers.

The public will not be allowed to attend—only those directly involved in the issue at hand.

The agenda as released earlier in the week remains unchanged.
