Oil prices made small gains in Thursday’s trading

Both US and European oil prices saw minor gains in Thursday’s trading.

Benchmark U.S. crude oil for July delivery rose 12 cents. The West Texas Intermediate price settled at $37.41 a barrel in trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange.

Brent crude for August delivery rose 20 cents in ICE Futures trading and ended the day at $39.99 a barrel.

Natural gas remained unchanged at $1.82 per MMBtu.

Trading of Oklahoma-related energy firms saw Chesapeake Energy shoot up more than 7% or 94 cents before finishing the day at $14.05 a share.

ConocoPhillips dropped 41 cents to $44.71 while Devon Energy went up 20 cents or about 2% to finish at $12.72.

EOG Resources lost 22 cents on the day and ended at $55.15 while Marathon Oil added 28 cents or 5% to its shares before ending at $6.23.

ONEOK saw shares go up 13 cents and ended at $40.71 while Phillips 66 lost 60 cents a share and finished at $83.13.

American Electric Power fell 25 cents or about 3% and settled at $84.40.
