Crude approaches $40 a barrel in the US

 

 

Crude oil futures settled at nearly $42 a barrel overseas on Friday while in the US, prices were just under the $40 mark.

West Texas Intermediate July futures were up 91 cents or 2.3% in trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange and finished at $39.75 a barrel.

Brent August crude rose 40 cents or 1% and finished at $41.91 a barrel on the ICE futures.

Natural gas was up 3 cents or 2% and finished at $1.67 per MMBtu.

Chesapeake Energy slipped 18 cents or 1.39% to end the day at $12.77 a share. The Oklahoma City company had started the week at $18.87 a share on Monday.

ConocoPhillips dropped 75 cents or 2% to end at $43.70. Devon Energy slipped one cent to finish at $12.94.

EOG Resources fell 63 cents or 1.2% before ending the day at $52.30. Marathon Oil was down 13 cents or 2% to finish at $6.36 a share.

ONEOK finished Friday down $1.18 or 3.2% before settling at $35.17. Phillips 66 dropped $1.54 or 2% and settled at $74.70 a share.

SandRidge Energy dropped 13 cents or 9% to finish Friday at $1.35. NGL Energy Partners slipped 28 cents or 5% to end trading at $5.32.

American Electric Power dropped 2.5% or $2.06 a share and settled at $79.70.
