State’s unemployment list grows amidst the pandemic

Joining oil and gas workers in the Oklahoma unemployment lines are employees of the Oklahoma City Convention and Visitors Bureau as well as those at Stage Stores in the State. Layoffs are due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Oklahoma Office of Workforce Development received notification that 8 workers at the Convention and Visitors Bureau were laid off this week. The bureau blamed declining tax revenue in the coronavirus pandemic.

As for Stage Stores, the company has 28 stores in Oklahoma and filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. The company also has one store under the Goody’s name and three under the Gordman’s name in Oklahoma.

“While the bankruptcy is chapter 11, they stated that they will liquidate everything unless someone buys them,” according to Bill Hancock, the Business Services and rapid Response Coordinator at the Office of Workforce Development.
