Oil prices suffer in low $20s—so do energy firms

 

Oil prices rebounded ever so slightly in Monday’s trading while energy companies saw their stocks continue to lose value.

West Texas Intermediate crude closed 73 cents higher at $23.36 a barrel, a change of 3.23%. Brent Crude in London was up 53 cents and closed at $27.51 a barrel, a change of 1.96%.

Natural gas ended the day one cent higher, closing at $1.60.

Oklahoma companies such as Chesapeake Energy saw Monday’s close a penny lower, finishing the day at $0.176 per share. Conoco Phillips dropped $2.29 and finished the day at $24.55 a share.

Devon Energy increased a dime and ended the day at $6.18 per share. Marathon Oil Corp. dropped 21 cents a share before finishing at $3.35.

National Oilwell Varco was down 44 cents and ended the day at $9.75 per share. ONEOK’s shares dropped $1.07 and finished at $19.60 a share.

Phillips 66 plunged $6.26 and finished the day at $42.09 a share, a 12.95% change.

American Electric Power was down $1.45, ending Monday’s trading at $70.

SandRidge Energy stock increased 2 cents and finished the day at $0.82 a share.
