Judge rules against Newfield Energy in Kingfisher county well fight

Newfield Energy has found itself on the losing side of a legal fight over a Kingfisher County well that ended up in Oklahoma City federal court.

U.S. District Judge Charles B. Goodwin has ruled against the company after it was sued by Curtis and Cheryl Cory in a fight over a power pool contract for their 160 acres of land.

The Corys sued for breach of contract when Newfield received permission from state regulators to drill the Katie 1509 well on the 640-acre section (Section 36, Township 15 North, Range 9 West) that included their land. They argued their original lease included spacing limitations which prevented them from being a part of the 640-acre pool.
