Oklahoma’s oil and gas rig count remained steady in the past week while the national count fell by four to 790 rigs.
Baker Hughes Co. reported the North American count included a decline of one oil rig to 675 while the number of gas rigs dropped by three to 112. Compared to a year ago, the national count is down 255 from 1,045 while the number of gas rigs is down 86 and the number of oil rigs slipped by 172.
Oklahoma’s count remained at 53 from a week ago. But the impact of the slowdown in the oil and gas industry is starkly reflected in the rig count of 122 reported one year earlier.
Texas saw a decline of two to 395. The count in Kansas is 23, down six from a week ago according to the Independent Oil and Gas Service’s Red Top Rig Report. New Mexico remained at 109 while Colorado added one to reach 22 rigs.
Louisiana reported a decline of two to 52 while North Dakota stayed at 52 working rigs. Wyoming continued with 23 rigs.
Oklahoma’s Granite Wash finally saw one working rig in the past week after sitting on ‘zero’ for a few weeks. A year ago, the GW had 5 working rigs.
The Mississippian in northern Oklahoma and southern Kansas remained at two rigs, compared to the 10 it had a year ago. The Ardmore Woodford added a rig to reach four. The Arkoma Woodford remained at two rigs.
The D-J Basin in Colorado added a rig to reach 20. The Eagle Ford in South Texas grew by one to hit 70. The Permian Basin grew by one to hit 406 rigs while the Williston in North Dakota remained steady at 53 working rigs.
