Mullin’s view of military briefing on Iran far different than that of Utah Senator

At least one Oklahoma congressman disagrees with Utah Republican Sen. Mike Lee after getting a classified White House briefing over what led to the U.S. killing of Iranian Major General Qasem Soleimani.

Republican Rep. Markwayne Mullin issued his response on Wednesday in a tweet.

“I just got out of a classified briefing about the elimination of known terrorist Soleimani. We already knew that @realDonaldTrump  acted decisively, but this briefing made it clear that he had to act to keep Americans safe at home and abroad.”

But Rep. Mullin’s response was in direct contradiction with conservative Sen. Lee who had a scathing assessment of the briefing.

Lee described the administration’s presentation as “probably the worst briefing, at least on a military issue, I’ve seen in nine years I’ve been here.”

“I find it insulting, and I find it demeaning to the Constitution of the United States to which we’ve all sworn an oath,” Lee continued. “It is, after all, the prerogative of the legislative branch to declare war.”

He told reporters he entered the briefing “undecided” whether to support a push by Senate Democrats for passage of a War Powers Resolution to constrain the administration’s capacity to take more military action against Iran without congressional approval.

“That briefing is what changed my mind,” Lee said. “I’m now going to support it.”

Responses to Rep. Mullin’s tweet varied from ‘Thank you’ to—“Utah Republican Senator Lee must have been at a different briefing. #ImpeachAndRemove

Another tweeted “Lee is trying to make a name. Big whoop” while one responded “Markwayne were you on the same briefing with Mike Lee? He obviously didn’t get the same information you did.”
