With dry conditions and strong winds, the Oklahoma Forestry Department remains concerned about wildfires in the state this week.
In recent days, several wildfires were fought throughout the state. Activity spiked last Thursday with a dry airmass that supported the dry conditions. Elevated fire dangers are present in the western parts of Oklahoma and especially in the Panhandle as humidity levels drop into the single digits. Warmer weather is in the forecast through Thursday with temperatures in the upper 60s and possibly 70s in the Panhandle.
An approaching storm system offers some promise of precipitation in those areas.
The Forestry Department emphasized the highest fire dangers are in the Panhandle and wind could aide the quick movement of any wildfire that develops.
By Christmas Day, southwest winds are expected to increase to 15-20 mph with gusts nearing 30 mph.
