Oil production up in Texas but well permits and completions are down

A new report from the Railroad Commission of Texas shows oil production in the state totaled 96.97 million barrels of oil and 702.42 billion cubic feet of natural gas in September. Production is up but the number of completed wells is down.

It compares to crude oil production of 85.10 million barrels a day in September 2018 and 591 billion cubic feet of natural gas.

The oil production in September came from 172,622 oil wells and 87,726 gas wells as the average daily production of both oil and gas grew from September 2018 to September 2019.

The oil production rose from 2.84 million barrels a day in September 2018 to 3.23 million barrels a day in September of this year.

Midland, Martin, Karnes, Reeves and Upton were the five top production oil counties while those for gas were Reeves, Webb, Midland, Panola and Tarrant.

The Railroad Commission also reported 958 drilling permits were issued in November 2019, 25 more than a year ago. The commission also approved 711 oil, 117 gas, 34 injection and four other completion permits in November which is down from the 794 oil, 151 gas, 30 injection and one other completion made in November 2018.

The number of total well completions for 2019 is 8,692 which is below the 10,236 recorded at this time last year.
