Longtime oil company director named to OU Board of Regents

Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt’s latest appointment to the University of Oklahoma Board of Regents is Michael A. Cawley, a director of Houston-based Noble Energy Inc.

Cawley, 72 was President and CEO of the Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation in Ardmore from 1992 until his retirement in 2012. He is one of 9 directors now on the Noble Energy Board and was appointed in 1995.

Cawley replaces Renzi Stone who abruptly resigned from the OU Regents in October 2019. Cawley received his undergraduate and law-school degrees from OU.

“Governor Stitt has shared with me his desire for higher education excellence. I am honored to have the opportunity to work with the Board of Regents and university teams to bring that desire to fruition,” said Cawley in a statement.

Cawley was also chairman of the OU Foundation Board of Trustees and chairman of the University of Oklahoma Associates Council. He also led fundraising efforts for the Jimmie Austin Golf Course.
