Fight expected in Colorado over new oil and gas emissions rules

Leaders of the oil and gas industry are expected to clash next week with environmentalists in Colorado as the state draws up new rules for toxic and planet-warming gases emitted from oil and gas operations.

The rules are the intent of Gov. Jared Polis who wants to increase the frequency and scope of oil and gas leak detections and repairs across the state, according to the Colorado Independent newspaper.

A new law signed into effect last April requires regulators to slash emissions of greenhouse gases and volatile organic compound from the oil and gas operations.
