How private weather forecasters are overtaking NOAA

Are private weather companies exceeding the abilities of the National Weather Service in prediction of weather?

It appears so and it’s raising questions about whether the federal government should be concerned about the advancement of such private weather forecasting firms as AccuWeather, Earth Networks and the Weather Co. The Washington Post reports how those firms are producing their own data rather than relying on the National Weather Service.

The paper says the private weather firms are leapfrogging the information-gathering capabilities of federal agencies.
