Oklahoma Receives REAL ID Extension Until September 18, 2020

Down to the wire. Oklahoma received an extension from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security on the REAL ID through September 18, 2020. An extension was filed in August but was set to expire on October 10.

In response to the September 11 terrorist attack, Congress passed the REAL ID Act in 2005. Oklahoma and Oregon are the last two states to finalize implementation of the program.

Oklahoma anticipates the issuance of REAL ID compliant driver licenses by April 30, 2020. Meanwhile, the state continues to ensure that proper infrastructure is set up to meet the necessary requirements under the law.
