Safety award given to Comanche Electric

The workers at Comanche Electric were honored by the Municipal Electric Systems of Oklahoma (MESO). Comanche placed first in the MESO’s annual Electric Safety Competition for 2018 in the category for cities with under 10,000 population.

The award is based on Comanche Electric’s “no lost of work time,” this means there was no reports of workers needing “days away from work,” “restricted to light duty,” or “Medical treatment.” The department also participated in MESO’s Job and Safety program as one of many resources for safety.

Tom Rider, MESO general manager, presented the award.

“As important as electric system reliability is to citizens, knowing that each and every day, the work is being performed correctly and safety should be a source of pride for Comanche customers,” he said. “The current operational standards and employee training standards of this utility are superior. Local control means local crews, that means fast response, and fast response means less outage time.”

The trade association represents cities in Oklahoma, Missouri, Kansas and Arkansas. As part of MESO Comanche is also a signatory to Mutual Aid Agreements in the region. These agreements are recognized by FEMA for use in the event of emergency or natural disaster. Utility members agree to help with assistance ahead of the need to help insure there are little to no delays in response.

The city of Comanche purchases its energy from the Oklahoma Municipal Power Authority (OMPA).
