Survey finds economy to grow in Oklahoma and Mid-West

The Mid-America Business Conditions Index suggests there will be economic growth in Oklahoma and 8 other states in the Midwest and Plains areas.

The June survey by Creighton University economist Ernie Goss found “weak farm income, produced partially by tariffs and flooding, pulled regional growth below that of the nation.”

But he also found in his survey of business supply managers that they expect growth to continue over the next three to six months. As a result of the survey, his index rose to 55.4 last month from 54.3 in May while the April figure was 55.9.

The survey results are compiled into a collection of indexes ranging from zero to 100. Survey organizers say any score above 50 suggests growth. A score below that suggests decline.

The survey covers  Oklahoma as well as Arkansas, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota and South Dakota.
