Flooding will keep barge traffic down at Tulsa Port of Catoosa

The director of the Tulsa Port of Catoosa says last month’s severe flooding along the Arkansas River will likely keep barge traffic halted for much of the summer.

David Yarbrough says it might be months before traffic resumes.

“Most of the ports and terminals have been hanging onto their fleet because we couldn’t ship,” Yarbrough said by phone in an interview with the Tulsa World.  “We have, I think, 78 barges at the Port of Catoosa that are loaded and ready to go down river. Those aren’t going to move until the industry can start moving barges up here and take them down.”
