Dallas deepwater driller reports oil discovery in Gulf of Mexico

While oil and gas producers in Oklahoma focus on production in the state, a Dallas company reports an oil discovery in the Gulf of Mexico.

Kosmos Energy said the discovery was the Gladden Deep which is expected to be brought online in the fourth quarter of the year. The company said that based on preliminary analysis of drilling and wireline logging results, the recoverable resource is expected to be in line with the pre drill estimate of 7 mmboe gross.

Gladden Deep is the first of a four well infrastructure-led exploration program in the Gulf. Kosmos plans to drill a prospect in the third quarter followed by two others in the fourth quarter. The company believes the three prospects could produce 100 million barrels of oil equivalent.

Kosmos focuses its oil and gas production in deep water and some of its key assets include offshore Ghana, Equatorial Guinea and the Gulf of Mexico.
