Utilities join to help raise funds for Salvation Army of Central Oklahoma

Oklahoma’s three major utilities are joining forces in July to hold an annual fundraiser for the Salvation Army of Central Oklahoma.

The event is the annual Home Energy Aid fundraiser and the three utilities joining with the Salvation Army are Oklahoma Gas and Electric, Oklahoma Natural Gas and Public Service Company of Oklahoma.

The fundraiser will be held Friday, July 19 at the Salvation Army’s Oklahoma City location, 1001 N. Pennsylvania Avenue from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

“Utility bills continue to be a challenge for many in our community,” said Major Susan Ellis, area commander. “We want to help as many seniors, persons with disabilities and families on low and fixed incomes as we possibly can with the resources provided. The Salvation Army stands ready to help our neighbors in need regroup from personal disasters they may be experiencing. I look forward to seeing everyone at the Home Energy Aid fundraiser.”

Tickets are being sold in advance and day of the event. For a $7.50 ticket, individuals will be treated to a fresh-grilled hamburger, chips and drink. To go orders will also be available.

“Funds are critical to meet this ongoing need which is what makes this fundraiser so important,” said Traci Jinkens, director of development. “Donations and sponsorships of this event will be directed right back into the utility assistance programs. All donations for this fundraiser will be matched 1:1 up to $3,000 thanks to the gift of an anonymous donor.”

Nearly 183,000 Oklahomans receive assistance from The Salvation Army Central Oklahoma each year through the broadest array of social services ranging from providing food for the hungry, relief for disaster victims, assistance for the disabled, outreach to the elderly, shelter to the homeless and opportunities for underprivileged children. About 83 cents of every dollar raised is used to support those services.
