Oklahoma adopts regulations for self-driving cars

Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt has signed into law a bill to regulate self-driving cars.

Both the State House and Senate approved Senate Bill 365 which is known as the Oklahoma Driving automation System Uniformity Act. On Tuesday, the Governor signed it into law, making it the 188th bill signed by him in his first legislative session.

By signing the bill, the act preempts local laws and states that only the State can enact laws and regulations of the self-driving vehicles.

“In Layman’s language, what this bill does is put everybody singing off the same sheet of music, it’s that simple,” said Mark Madeja, spokesperson for AAA. “I think we’re going to be well positioned and this could be an economic boom for the state of Oklahoma.”

Madeja says its also allowing Oklahoma to keep pace with other states as autonomous and self-driving car technology advances.\
The authors of the bill were Sens. Michael Bergstrom of Adair and Nathan Dahm of Broken Arrow and Rep. Ryan Martinez of Edmond.
