Nation’s rig count drops while Oklahoma tries to rebound

The U.S. oil and gas rig count dropped again in the past week while the number of active rigs in Oklahoma added one to reach 103 rigs.

Baker Hughes Co. reported the national count slipped by one to reach 990, down 42 rigs from a year ago when there were 1,032 active oil and gas rigs.

The number of oil rigs in the U.S. in the past week grew by 2 to reach 807 while the number of gas rigs fell by 3 to 183.

Oklahoma’s rig count of 103 compares to Texas where the rig count dropped by 7 to reach 484. The Red Top Rig Report in Kansas reported 29 active rigs, two fewer than a week ago.

The number in Colorado grew by one to hit 33 while Louisiana remained at 62. New Mexico continued with the second highest count in the nation, adding two rigs to reach 106. North Dakota dropped one to 57. Wyoming remained at 32.

Of the various plays, the Woodfords in Oklahoma added two rigs to reach 8. The Granite Wash remained at 8. The Mississippian added one rig to hit 6.

The DJ Basin in Colorado added one to hit 30 while the Eagle Ford in south Texas also added a rig to reach 74. The Permian Basin saw a decline of one rig to 459. The Williston in North Dakota dropped one to hit 57.
