Flooded River forces shutdown of Holly Frontier refinery in Tulsa

Flooding on the Arkansas River in Tulsa has forced the shutdown of the Holly Frontier refinery.

Operators made the decision Thursday afternoon saying it would be a temporary shutdown until flood conditions improve.

“Due to high water in the Tulsa area, the HollyFrontier Tulsa Refinery is temporarily shutting down operations as a precautionary measure for the safety of our employees, contractors, community and operations. We encourage everyone in the community to heed the warnings from emergency management officials, be alert and stay safe.”

The refinery sits adjacent to the flooded river and is one of five owned by Texas-based Holly Frontier company. Others are in Kansas, Wyoming, Utah and New Mexico.

The refinery has a crude oil capacity of 125,000 barrels a day and primarily processes sweet crude oils.
