Broken levee leaves parts of city of Sayre flooded

A levee apparently couldn’t contain the amount of rainfall that fell in the western city of Sayre and broke early Wednesday morning, resulting in a flooded that damaged homes and businesses.

There were no reports of injuries.

It was Tuesday night when severe weather moved out of the Texas Panhandle and into Western Oklahoma, producing heavy rainfall. There were reports of up to 5 inches of rain in some areas.

The storms produced a large tornado that gave a glancing blow to the small town of Rocky located in Washita County. At least one barn was destroyed and some homes were damaged but there were no reports of injuries.

The rains moved into central Oklahoma where numerous high-water rescues were made by Oklahoma City firefighters.
