US rig report rebounds while Oklahoma’s fades

The U.S. oil and gas rig count soared by 19 in the past week reaching a total of 1,025 active rigs at play while the number of rigs in Oklahoma dropped again.

Oklahoma’s rig count fell by one to 107 while New Mexico’s Permian Basin activity increased the state’s count to the same as Oklahoma. A year ago, Oklahoma had an active rig count of 126 while the count in New Mexico was only 90.  It’s reflective of how activity has soared in the Permian Basin of West Texas and southeast New Mexico.

Baker Hughes Co reported the national  rig count included 15 more oil rigs to reach 831 while gas added four to hit 194. The U.S rig count as of April 4, 2019 was up 22 from a year earlier.

Oklahoma was the only one of the area oil and gas-active states to show a drop in rig activity. Kansas added 5 rigs to reach 33 according to the Red Top Rig Report published by the Independent Oil and Gas Service Inc. of Wichita, Kansas. Colorado  added two to hit 32.

The count in Texas grew by 8 to hit 499. North Dakota added a rig to reach 61. Wyoming remained at 36 and Louisiana stayed at 65.

The Woodford plays in Oklahoma saw activity remained at 8 working rigs. The Granite Wash in western Oklahoma and the Texas Panhandle continued with 8 rigs while the Mississippian continued at four.   The Permian added 8 to reach 462. The Williston was up one to 61. The Barnett stayed at one and the Eagle Ford in South Texas remained at 78.

The D-J Niobrara grew by one to 30.
