PSO awards more education grants

AEP Teacher Vision Grants from Public Service Company of Oklahoma (PSO) are enabling local educators to improve student learning in the classroom.

Individual grants up to $500 have been awarded to teachers in Atoka, Grove, Hobart, Hinton, Jay, Owasso, Quinton, Tulsa and Vinita.  The total amount awarded is nearly $7900.

“If adequate funding is all that stands between a teacher and a new classroom adventure, that’s where AEP’s Teacher Vision Grants can help,” said Tiffiini Jackson, PSO vice president for external affairs.  “One goal of these grants is to help us partner with and support people and resources that are vital in communities we serve.  Who better to support than those Pre-K through grade 12 educators who are devoted to motivating youth to think creatively, to step into leadership roles and to address the challenges of the future?”

The AEP Teacher Vision Grant program was launched in 2003 to provide aid ranging from $100 to $500 to classroom teachers.  Educators who live or teach in the AEP service area or in communities with major AEP facilities are eligible to apply for the mini-grants.  Projects that have an academic focus and goal of improving student achievement are eligible for consideration.  AEP has a special interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), electrical safety, the study of energy and a sustainable environment, and energy efficiency.
