Pruitt faces uphill lobbying effort in Indiana

Scott Pruitt and the coal company that’s hired him to do lobbying work in Indiana appear to have run into more opposition on what they’re seeking in the legislature.

The former EPA Administrator, who previously as Oklahoma Attorney General, was hired by Denver-based Hallador Energy Co. to fight the efforts of two utilities to close some power plants based on Obama-era standards.  Hallador and its subsidiary, Rail Point Solutions had hoped to get the support of Indiana’s Chamber of Commerce. But it didn’t happen.

The Chamber came out this week against Hallador’s proposed two-year moratorium against the planned shutdown of plants that use coal.

In announcing its opposition,  the Chamber made reference to Pruitt offering up language in support of a moratorium.

“Not one person we’ve talked to or heard from—except for Scott Pruitt and Rail Point—thinks the moratorium will benefit ratepayers,” stated the chamber.
