National clean air improvements are reported

A new report is out showing progress is being made in air quality in the U.S. and Oklahoma is playing a role.

The Association of Air Pollution Control Agencies stated in its 2019 report that there was a 73 percent reduction in the combined emissions from 1970 to 2017.

Oklahoma reduced its amount of nitrogen oxides from 1990 to 2016 by 65,611 tons, adding to the nation’s reduction by 80 percent. The total reduction across the U.S. was 3.2 million tons.

During the same time period, Oklahoma reduced its sulfur dioxide emissions from the electricity sector by 52,367 tons.

Oklahoma is also one of the states on the board of directors of the national association.
