Fire dangers remain low as storms move into Oklahoma

The Oklahoma Forestry Department is hoping storms bring some relief to dry conditions in southwest Oklahoma and perhaps to the Panhandle.

Otherwise, the department does not expect significant fire dangers through the week.

Rainfall of one to two inches is expected in the southwest. But it’s the Panhandle where the Department leadership is most concerned because of the lack of rainfall in the region.

The Department’s Fire Situation Report on Monday indicated that portions of the Panhandle were nearing critical indices over the weekend.

“Although some rains have transpired in the Panhandle, much of the three county area is now separated from wetting rains
by a month as is an island around the Fairview Mesonet site in Major County. Opportunity overnight for the trend to end
are promising, although we are monitoring the areas for lingering fire danger concerns,” stated the report.
