Green New Deal author, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has again caused her critics to shake their heads in disbelief.
She now contends the crisis at the border with Mexico is caused by—-climate change. She blamed the migrant problem on climate change but only after professing the U.S. will “have blood on our hands” if climate legislation is not passed by Congress.
“The far-right loves to drum up fear & resistance to immigrants,” tweeted the freshman congresswoman. “But have you ever noticed they never talk about what‘s causing people to flee their homes in the first place? Perhaps that’s bc they’d be forced to confront 1 major factor fueling global migration: Climate change.”
“I think what we have laid out here is a very clear moral problem,” she told House Oversight Committee members. “If we fail to act or if we delay in acting, we will have blood on our hands.”
The reaction from Republicans was no surprise.
“It’s news to me, I didn’t know the Green New Deal would also solve the border crisis,” said Texas Rep. Dan Crenshaw in an interview on Fox News. “It’s pretty clear that [Democrats are] not taking this seriously at all. I mean listen the numbers speak for themselves. This is not due to climate change.”
